Solar Repairs on the Central Coast, Get a System That's Stopped Performing Working Again
When solar underperforms, throws a fault, or just goes quiet, you need a licensed electrician who works on systems, not a salesperson chasing the next install. We didn't have to sell you the panels to fix them: we fault-find, service and repair solar across the Central Coast, whatever brand is on your roof.
Solar Repairs, Servicing & Everything After the Install

Solar Panel Repairs & Fault-Finding
Output dropped, app showing zero, or a string gone dark? We trace the actual fault, panel, cabling, connector, isolator or inverter, instead of guessing, and give you a straight diagnosis of what it takes to put it right.

Solar Inverter Replacement & Repair
The inverter works hardest and fails first. When yours is throwing codes, dropping offline or simply dead, we repair where it's sensible and replace where it isn't, matched to your existing panels.

Solar System Servicing & Health Checks
Most systems are fitted and forgotten. A periodic check on the connections, isolators, mounting and output catches the small faults that quietly cost you generation before they become an expensive failure.

Zen is a licensed Central Coast electrical business, owned and run by Hannes. Plenty of installers are keen to sell you a system and gone the moment it's switched on. We work the other end of the job, the diagnosing, repairing and servicing that keeps a system earning its keep for the twenty years it's meant to last. Solar is electrical work, and that's exactly what we are.
Because we don't sell systems on commission, the advice is straight: we'll tell you when a clean fixes it, when an inverter swap is worth it, and when a tired system genuinely isn't worth throwing money at. We work on every brand on Central Coast roofs, whoever installed it, whether the original company is still trading or long gone.
- ✓ Licensed electricians, solar fault-finding is electrical work, not a sales call
- ✓ We service every brand, including systems whose installer has vanished
- ✓ Repair-first: we fix what's fixable before we ever talk replacement
- ✓ One trade for the whole job, panels, inverter, isolators and switchboard

Faults Found, Systems Back Online

Solar Repairs on the Central Coast, Your Questions Answered
My solar output has dropped, how do you find out why?
We work through it methodically rather than guessing. The usual culprits are an ageing or faulted inverter, a tripped or failed rooftop isolator, soiled or shaded panels, a dead string from a connector fault, or a system that was simply undersized for how your usage has grown. We performance-test the system, isolate where the loss is, and give you a straight read on whether it's a clean, a repair, an inverter swap or something else.
Will you work on a system you didn't install?
That's most of what we do. We're licensed electricians servicing solar across the Central Coast regardless of who put it up, including systems whose original installer has gone out of business. The panels and inverter don't care whose logo is on the quote; the electrical work is the same.
My inverter is showing a fault code or warning light, is that serious?
It depends what it is. Some codes clear themselves after a grid disturbance; others flag a genuine fault that's costing you generation or, occasionally, a safety issue. Tell us the brand and the code or light pattern and we'll tell you whether it's something to watch or something to look at. Guessing with an inverter that's wired to your switchboard isn't worth the risk.
Can a faulty inverter be repaired, or does it always need replacing?
Sometimes it's a repair, sometimes a replacement, and we'll tell you which honestly. Minor faults and some component failures are fixable; an older unit out of warranty with no parts support usually isn't worth chasing. When replacement is the call, we match the new inverter to your existing panels so the system performs to its potential again rather than being held back.
How often should a solar system be serviced?
There's no legal interval, but a periodic check every couple of years is sensible, sooner for older systems or homes close to the water. Panels and wiring sit exposed on a roof for decades; connections work loose, isolators degrade and output drifts down slowly enough that you don't notice until a bill reminds you. A check catches the small stuff before it becomes a failure.
Do solar panels really need cleaning?
Often, yes, especially on the coast. Salt haze, dust, pollen and bird mess build a film that a passing shower won't shift, and even a thin layer measurably cuts output. We clean safely with the right gear and access, and inspect the array while we're up there. Plenty of owners are surprised how much generation a proper clean brings back.
What's the rooftop isolator and why does it matter?
It's the DC switch up on the roof that lets the system be shut down safely. Early solar used isolators that weren't always rated for years of Australian sun and weather, and degraded ones are a recognised cause of solar faults and, in the worst cases, rooftop fires. Checking and replacing tired isolators is one of the most important safety jobs on an older system, and strictly licensed electrical work.
Is solar repair work something a handyman can do?
No. Anything on the AC side, the switchboard, the inverter wiring or the rooftop DC isolators is licensed electrical work, and a solar array can hold a dangerous DC voltage even when the sun's low. Cleaning the face of a panel is one thing; touching the electrical side is work for a licensed electrician, both legally and for your safety.
My system was switched off and never turned back on, can you reconnect it?
Usually, yes. Systems get isolated for a roof repair, a renovation, a fault, or after a house sale and then sit idle. We check why it was shut down, confirm it's safe and compliant, repair anything that caused the original isolation, and bring it back online, rather than just flicking it back on and hoping.
Can you add a battery to my existing solar?
In most cases. The first question is whether your current inverter is hybrid-ready; if it is, a battery is a cleaner add. If it isn't, an AC-coupled battery with its own inverter is the usual retrofit path. We check what you've got and handle the electrical integration properly, the wiring and switchboard side is exactly our trade.
Can you wire an EV charger to run off my solar?
Yes. If you've already got solar and you're adding an EV, a solar-aware charger can prioritise the power your roof makes through the day instead of exporting it for a low feed-in rate. We handle the charger wiring and the switchboard work to tie it in safely with your existing system.
The monitoring app shows nothing, does that mean the system's dead?
Not necessarily. A blank app often just means the inverter has dropped off the wi-fi, which looks alarming but doesn't always mean lost generation. Other times it's a genuine fault that's taken the system offline. We can tell the difference, whether it's a communications dropout to reconnect or an actual fault to repair.
Does it cost more to repair an old system than to replace it?
Not usually, repair is almost always the cheaper first move, which is why we lead with it. A clean, an isolator, or an inverter swap costs a fraction of a full new system and can add years of life. We'll only say a system isn't worth repairing when that's genuinely the case, and we'll explain why rather than just pointing at a new quote.
What brands and system types do you work on?
All the common ones found on Central Coast roofs, string, hybrid and micro-inverter systems, and the major CEC-approved panel and inverter brands. Because we're not tied to one manufacturer, our job is to get what's already up there working, not to talk you into a particular badge.
Do you offer free quotes for repairs?
Yes, a free, no-obligation solar health check across the Central Coast. For a lot of faults we can get a long way from the inverter brand, the fault code or app reading, and a few photos of the system and switchboard sent through the chat or enquiry form. Where a roof inspection is needed we'll arrange it and give you a clear written quote.
What areas do you cover?
We're based on the Central Coast and service the whole region, all areas of the Central Coast and everywhere between. Solar is searched and serviced regionally rather than by single suburb, so we treat the entire Coast as our patch.
